Chakwera Ready To Step Down As MCP President….Pave Way For Fresh Convention
Malawi Congress Party President and Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Reverend Lazarus Chakwera has said he is ready to step down as President of the party and pave way for fresh elections in MCP as demanded by some people within MCP.
In an interview with Malawi Independent, Chakwera said he is a true democrat who believes in respecting other people’s views and such, he would let the will of the people he leads in MCP to prevail and their choices to be respected.
“After all the concerns and outcries by MCP followers, I hereby announce that am stepping down as MCP President, i will let other people in the party to lead the process of an early convention. I will also contest for the presidency and if the people in MCP still believe in me, am sure they will vote for me again.I hope that this will help end all the calls for an early convention in MCP and bring sanity in the party.”
It is not yet known if CHakwera means what he said or he is trying to tease the minds of his followers in Malawi Congress Party.
Some party officials have so far said they are happy with the decision by Chakwera and they would elect a leader who will represent them well in 2019 as well as respect their views
