APM’s Caring Govt Gives Civil Servants A Pay Hike: Pending Strike Called Off
Malawi Civil servants have all reasons to smile and following government’s commitment to meet their demands by accepting that they get a pay hike.
Members of the civil service threatened to down tools if government was not willing to rise their pay saying the cost of living had gone high, and for them to be motivated so that they work to the efficiency of the civil service.
There were talks which were taking place between government and the leadership of Civil Service Trade Union.
It has transpired from the meeting that now the lowest paid will be getting K72,000 from K61,000 and that the strike which was to start tomorrow has been called off.
CSTU wanted K75,000 as the lowest salary but after days of deliberations with government representatives, they have accepted the offer on table.
