MCP Youths In Door To Door Campaign Amid Chakwera’s Unpopularity: Msowoya Interested In MCP Presidency
Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youths are spending sleepless nights following the wrangles which have rocked their party, resulting in Lazarus Chakwera becoming unpopular, a development which has forced the Chakwera-Mia faction to send the youths in their party out for a door-to -door campaign amid fears that Chakwera has lost support.
According to information Malawi Independent has got, for the past week, MCP youths have been camping in the eastern region doing a door to door campaign where it is also reported they had beaten a foreigner while in Mangochi for unknown reasons.
This publication understands that the youths will this week invade the south, center and north afterwards to raise awareness of MCP president Lazarous Chakwera amid concerns of his unpopularity following the infighting and divisions which continues to rock the party.
The exercise is being bankrolled by Lower Shire’s business tycoon Sidik Mia who is being earmarked for the MCP’s running post in 2019 and has provided the youths with two Toyota Quantum Minibuses and a Three tonner to ease their mobility as well as money for their upkeep.
In a related development, MCP Vice President who is also speaker in the National Assembly, Richard Msowoya-MP has expressed interest to contest against MCP President Lazarus Chakwera in a convention slated for July this year.
This follows a call by some people in Malawi Congress Party who are against the leadership of Chakwera and have vowed to give Msowoya the support he needs to be the torch bearer for MCP in the 2019 elections.
