Robust Arrival: President Mutharika Arrives In RSA For Pan-African Parliament
Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the First Lady Madame Dr. Gertrude Mutharika who left the country through Kamuzu International Airport in the afternoon, have safely arrived in Sandton, South Africa, for the Pan- African Parliament.
Speaking before departure, Mutharika said it is a very important meeting where 55 African countries will discuss a number of issues including economic development, trade, peace and security for the continent.
He said the Pan African Parliament only meet once a year and this enables member countries to discuss issues affecting them.
Mutharika will close the session on Wednesday, and the President of West African nation of Burkina Faso will open the session tomorrow.
He disclosed that during the session the First Lady Madam Dr. Gertrude Mutharika will be bestowed as an ambassador for the Pan African Parliament.
Before departure for South Africa where he will address Pan African Parliament. Mutharika noted that for the first time a woman officer commanded the Guard of Honour in the country under his leadership.
Upon arrival, Mutharika was welcomed by State Residences Director General Peter Mukhito, members from the Malawi Embassy in South Africa, Malawians living in the rainbow nation and other government officials from both Malawi and RSA.
