Since 2012 when Joyce Banda took over power, her administration created the tale of Bingus MK 61 billion wealth using Yeremia Chihana, a brother to Enock Chihana of Aford whose party was a political bed fellow of the former ruling party.
For years this has been a subject of intense public debate but investigations into the matter buy state agencies under the request of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has found nothing, and both ACB and FIU are yet to present their findings to this parliamentary committee.
Peoples Party administration reported that Bingus wealth was stashed in several bank accounts and had assets abroad.
But ACB director general Lucas Kondowe said they instituted an inquiry into the alleged accumulation of wealth of the former president through an international inquiry using international requests for information but that inquiry has not yielded any results.
Kondowe said there is “no key information” to probe.
FIU which is expected to present a financial analysis to parliament has also no information of ill-gotten wealth.
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Samuel Tembenu said government has no evidence that money was stolen and also that there was any money outside the country as claimed by the former regime.
