President Mutharika Mourns His Departed Son Kudontoni: Refuses To Use Red Carpet At His Funeral Ceremony
Malawi President Arthur Peter Mutharika joined thousand of mourners on Friday in Salima where the remains of late Eckilen Kudontoni were interred to final resting place.
However, the President surprised the gathering when he refused to be accorded a red carpet treatment as is the case with all Presidential functions.
“He is such a humble leader and he really loved Honourable Kudontoni from deep down his heart.
We in the party are not surprised that the President came here first as Kudontoni’s friend than anything,” said one DPP senior member when asked about the absence of Presidential decorum at the function.
And in his obituary, the visibly grief-stricken Mutharika praised the contributions that late Kudontoni made to his family, the Democratic Progressive Party and the nation during his whole political career.
“You dedicated your life to the party. You were a gentle force in the unity of the party. You were a wise counselor. And you were always ready to fight for our good cause. We fought together, we were teargassed together during those days in the wilderness,” eulogized the State President.
