MCP Shun 2016 War Veterans Remembrance Day: “We Are Too Busy For That Useless Event”
Main opposition Malawi Congress Party failed to show up at the 2016 remembrance day which took place at Area 18 memorial pillar in Lilongwe, saying the Party’s President Lazarus Chakwera who was among the people to lay the wreaths and his vice President Richard Msowoya were too busy to attend the function which they dubbed useless.
In an interview with Malawi Congress Party Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Eisenhower Mkaka, he said Chakwera who was expected to show at the event in his capacity as leader of Opposition and his Deputy Msowoya who was to attend as speaker of the National Assembly had no reason to attend the function which was not that important to them.
“You may be aware that Chakwera and Msowoya are busy men serving as leader of opposition and speaker respectively. The two had very important schedules to meet and to be present at the venue was a wasting their precious time and hence they were not able to show up.”
Malawians have condemned the missing of the Chakwera and Msowoya saying the event is very important in our history and people who represent us on this day spare their time to pay respect to war veterans.
Among those present was Malawi President Peter Mutharika, His Vice President Saulos Chilima, Members of the diplomatic corps, Army General, Deputy Inspector General of Police, clergy, politicians, business gurus and Malawians of good will among others.
