Chanco Media Houses Deny Being Part Of Media Politicians Pressure Group
University of Malawi affiliated media houses, Chanco Radio and Chanco TV, have distanced themselves from the Mount Soche Declaration which seeks to have private media cease coverage of any news to do with the President and his cabinet.
A meeting by media owners at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre on Monday resolved to warn President Mutharika and his government over what they term as threats during a development rally he held weeks ago.
A resolution -which indicated that the two UNIMA media houses had signed- was made to give the President and his cabinet a blackout if there is no change.
However, a statement released from Chancellor College in Zomba where the two institutions are based says the two are not private media houses as such do not comply to any edicts signed in such a forum.
“The managers of Chanco Radio and Chanco TV did not authorize the signing of the communique and are not part and parcel of the communique,” reads the statement.
The managers have further promised the audience that they will continue championing professionalism in executing their duties.
Chanco Radio and TV broadcast to Zomba, Machinga and Chiradzulu among other places.
