Escom Says No Load shedding To Allow Malawians Follow President Mutharika’s Press Conference
Power utility Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) will on Friday afternoon suspend its load shedding regime to allow Malawians follow proceedings from Kamuzu Palace where President Arthur Peter Mutharika will convene a press conference, the first since his return from United Nations General Assembly.
According to Escom spokesperson Kitty Chingota they decided to suspend the rationing programme understanding that Malawians are eager to hear what their leader will say.
“As a corporate citizen we feel it is incumbent upon us to accord Malawians a chance to follow proceedings live without worrying of electricity. It is a decision that reflects seriously on how we cherish access to information by citizens,” she said.
President Mutharika has convened the press conference – where close to 100 local and international journalists have been invited- to explain his trip to UNGA where he carried out several high level assignments.
