All Set For Friday: State House Disowns False News Claiming Cancellation of APM’s Press Conference
State House has refuted rumors making rounds on social media that Friday’s pr3ss conference convened by President Mutharika has been postponed.
Wednesday afternoon opposition supporters started circulating a document purportedly written and signed by Presidential Press Secretary Mgeme Kalirani advising media houses that the event has been called off.
However, the Press Office has rubbished the document and maintains that the press conference is on this coming Friday where the President will explain more on his United Nations trip.
“It is unfortunate that some government critics are so desperate up to the point of spreading falsehood for political mileage. The press conference is on and the State President will proceed as planned with his information to the nation,” said an official at the Palace.
Some legal experts have also weighed in on the conduct by opposition supporters saying anyone who spreads lies or impersonates others in such manner needs to face the long arm of the law.
President Mutharika returned home from United States last Sunday where he attended and addressed the General Assembly among other things.
