Zambia’s IG Warns Those Spreading False News About HE Lungu’s Health On Social Media
Zambian Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has dismissed online publications on the health of President Edgar Lungu.
The I.G in a statement issued to Mwebantu in Lusaka today said the information circulating on social media insinuating that the Head of State is unwell and that the Defence and Security wings are making arrangements for her Honour the Vice President to take over office is false.
“We would like to inform members of the public that this information is a total malicious fabrication and one of the numerous falsehoods and ill intended motives and conduct being perpetrated through the highly abused social media aimed at misleading the general populace and causing alarm,” the I.G said.
“As Zambia Police, we urge members of the public to disregard this deceptive and alarming information and treat it with the highest contempt that it deserves.”
He said police have instituted investigations in the matter and all those that will be found to be behind the act will be arrested and dealt with in accordance to the provisions of the law.
And Kanganja has also reminded the general public that any other person that participates in the circulation of such information other than the authors risks being arrested.
“We therefore urge all members of the public to take heed of this timely warning and desist from participating in communicating falsehood that has potential to cause fear in the public, be it through social media or indeed any other means or channels of communication,” said Kanganja.
