Vice President Dr. Saulosi Chilima has said the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is a focused party which is doing all it can to develop the country as promised and will ensure that it sorts out the problems the country is going through.

He made the remarks Monday at Magawa Secondary School Ground in the area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Zulu in Mchinji where he addressed a development rally.

During the meeting former Minister of Gender, Women and Community Development in the late Bingu Wa Mutharika’s administration Tereza Mwale announced that she has rejoined the party after falling out of grace with party for contesting as an independent candidate during the 2014 Tripartite Elections.

The Vice President said it is not true the DPP led government is a failure as claimed by some quarters of the opposition saying the problems facing the nation are known to government and solutions to the problems have been identified already.

“The issues of food insecurity and power blackouts are not news at all because government knows them and solutions have been identified already. We have bought a lot of maize and some of those affected by food insecurity started receiving the food and cash to buy the food in July and this will continue.

“For energy, government has signed up agreement with international companies who are going to come up with companies that will provide alternative energy solutions such as solar and coal, so these issues are not news anymore,” he said.

Chilima added that ADMARC will open its markets next week to ensure the people get access to the maize saying many markets will be opened to ensure that all areas are covered.

He assured people in the country that the DPP led government will continue to develop the country in all sectors as promised and this will cover all corners of the country.

Commenting on the forth coming by elections, the Vice President urged the people in Mchinji West to vote for the DPP candidate Stephano Kamwani saying it is only the DPP candidate who could easily facilitate development in the area.

Speaking earlier, Minister of Community Development, Culture and Civic Education Patricia Kaliati, Minister of Labour, Youth Development and Sports Henry Mussa and DPP Secretary Genaleral Ecklen Kudontoni appealed to the people to vote for DPP candidate and not repeat their 2014 ‘mistake’ when they voted for an MCP candidate.
