Just days after Kenneth Msonda dumped Peoples Party, another high-ranking official Joseph Chikwemba has followed suit citing lack of vision by PP leadership as his major reason.

Chikwemba who has served as Administrative Secretary for three non consecutive years has thrown in the towel by quitting all PP social chat platforms.

The Zomba youthful politician has been telling his friends from all political parties that his future is no longer in Peoples Party.

“He says he is sure that PP will never bounce back to power hence his decision to move on,” said one of his closest childhood friends from Zomba.

He is therefore planning to contest as an independent candidate for Zomba Central constituency which he lost at primaries level towards the 2014 elections.Chikwemba lost to incumbent MP, Patricia Nangozo Kainga.

Joseph Chikwemba launched his political career in Democratic Progressive Party during Bingu’s reign. He quickly gained the President’s trust because of his vibrancy and astuteness in handling matters.

These traits earned him closeness to Bingu who taught him a lot about politics.

He later was coaxed by Joyce Banda to launch a youth movement that later fought her battles against Bingu up until she formed Peoples Party.

Chikwemba followed JB to form PP and was its first Administrative Secretary. After losing the 2014 primaries he was posted to Malawi Embassy in Japan where he served as First Secretary.

He however returned home four months later following PP’s defeat in 2014 polls. This is when he was reappointed party Administrative Secretary for the second stint.

His resignation will be a blow to Joyce Banda and the whole party as they will lose one of the finest young politicians in Malawi.
