Morgan Tembo Accepts Call To Rescue MCP From The Jaws Of Chakwera: Lovemore Munlo To Be His Deputy
Malawi Congress Party structures across the country -with the guidance of some national executive committee members – are pondering on replacing Lazarus Chakwera with Morgan, son to former leader John Tembo.
The call for change has come about following mass expulsions and suspensions that have affected some top members of the party such as Jessie Kabwila, Joseph Njobvuyalema, Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma and Felix Jumbe among others.
Morgan Tembo – who worked for many years at Limbe Leaf Tobacco as CEO- is husband to former Lilongwe legislator MEC commissioner Nancy Tembo.
Weeks ago disgruntled district chairpersons from across the country met John Tembo to seek guidance on how best they can revive the party without Chakwera as leader.
The chairpersons begged Tembo to return to mainstream politics and spearhead the party he once led for over a decade and guided it to two Presidential polls in 2004 and 2009.
However, John Tembo refused the offer forcing the chairpersons to ask for Morgan Tembo as an immediate option.
JZU promised them to talk to Morgan and convince him to get ready for party politics under the MCP banner.
Both Morgan and his wife Nancy have been sidelined from MCP activities since Chakwera took over the mantle and surrounded himself with new faces.
The anti-Chakwera camp has also proposed former Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo as a viable option to lead MCP to the 2019 polls.
