Malawi Congress Party leader Lazarus Chakwera has distanced the ruling DPP from squabbles that have rocked his party.
Since the MCP inside tension started some Malawians have been accusing the DPP of having a hand by sponsoring the two ‘warring factions’
However, during a press briefing held at MCP headquarters on Thursday, Chakwera said he cannot blame the DPP for any of the divisions in the party.
“You are asking me whether the ruling party is sponsoring those that are causing trouble in our party? That I don’t know but what I know is that we have problems in our family and we should address them,” said Chakwera in response to a question from one of the reporters.
The MCP leader also disclosed that his party thugs were behind the torching of Jessie Kabwila’s car some months ago at Lilongwe Golf Club.
The divisions within the party have reached a critical stage and all has culminated into the firing and suspension of some of the party’s prominent members.
Salima legislator Felix Jumbe and Chatinkha Chidzanja Nkhoma among others have been expelled from the party while Jessie Kabwila and Joseph Njovuyalema have been suspended pending investigations.
This is Chakwera’s real test in the political field since he took the reigns of power from John Tembo in 2013.
It is yet to be seen how the pastor-cum-politician will steer the ship which is now surely half-sunk and on its way to oblivion.
