Former president of Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), Newton Kambala is leading a new political party which has been formed in the country by former Ruling Peoples Party along with their political bedfellows, Malawi Congress Party.
According to sources, the new PP/MCP party will be called United Transformation Party (UTP) and it brings together Malawi’s business captains and other recycled politicians like Ian Kanyuka former Minister in Joyce Banda government Eunice Makangala among others.
It is on record that the secretary general on interim basis is Alex Solanke deputised by William Jalani.Other members include Janet Chikoko, Charles Mwambyale and Nevert Gondwe.
Information in our possession has indicated that another peoples party official and political rolling stone Humphrey Mvula is earmarked for the post of party strategist while Malawi Congress Party seasoned economist Dr Matthews Chikaonda is said to be lured to join the ranks.
However, the launch of the party has faced hurdles after some members went to court stopping Kambala from being the interim leader upon receiving instructions from former leader, Joyce Banda.
